This years AGM, on Monday 10th June, marked the end of an era. Chairman, Lee Shackleton and Treasurer, Martyn Nevatt both stepped down from their positions after 20+ years in their roles and 60 years with the club between them. This experience will be missed by the club but they certainly deserve the rest.
In Lee’s final Chairman’s report as Chairman Lee said
“I have had 21 amazing seasons involved with the club, we saw it change name, change ground, dramatically increase in size, won various awards for what we all achieved. I have far too many people to mention as individuals but needed to highlight a couple: Martyn (Treasurer) has been with me since the beginning, we regularly recall the difficult days and decisions we had to make to ensure the club remained heading in the direction needed off the field. John Swanson joined us very soon after and again on & off the field has been a huge source of strength, many challenges we had but always wanted what was best for the club. Janet, Carole and Rachael long suffering partners who put up with the night after night we were away coaching, meetings and training courses for ourselves to better ourselves and ensure we stayed ahead of the game. As mentioned far too many others to mention, players, coaches, management teams, parents, sponsors, Teesside Junior Football Alliance and Durham County FA have all at some point played a part in the success of Billingham Juniors FC. You all know who you are. The time is right as the club is currently in a strong position with a group of new managers wanting to ensure the club continues to deliver for the youth of Billingham.
Martyn in his Treasurer’s report commented
“I’d like to thank everyone over the years for the help after all the phone calls and emails. After nearly 20 yrs as Treasurer and another 7 as a parent, I’ve made many new friends and a sack full of memories. The time is right for someone else to take charge but I’ll always be here to support or help if needed”
All at Billingham Juniors both past and present would like to thank both Lee and Martyn and their long suffering and very tolerant wives for their time, commitment, drive and vision. The current management team look forward to the challenge of keeping the club innovative and moving forward.
